Training Totals for October

Written by Holly
Friday, 07 November 2008

Swim: 27,697 yards / 9 hours

Bike: 376 Miles / 26 hours

Run: 73 Miles / 11.5 hours

A technical note- my 100 mile ride is included in that since it was November 1st and part of a training week (I start my weeks on Monday, end them on Sunday).

So- cool, huh? I can't believe how fast this time has flown by, and how much of a difference I see in myself. Physically, I'm stronger and more fit, with no extra anything and I eat non stop to try to stay ahead of being hungry. The Core work has done wonders, and I have tan lines up and down my arms, legs, back.

Mentally, I'm calm. I am ready for this race no matter what it brings (I think even wind will only slow me down, not stop me), though I''ll admit some nagging concerns about being cold. Although, an odd side-effect of my training has been a new-found ability to withstand cold water and colder temperatures than usual. Freaky new ability welcomed!

I am thrilled to be just a couple weeks away from hearing the pre-race "You will be an Ironman today!" speech that I've heard twice before. Except this time, I think he'll be right.

Sunday is the 2.4 mile swim in Tempe Town Lake, and then it is a two week taper. I have been on the edge of a cold for a couple weeks, popping vitamins like a freak and praying it doesn't go into my chest. I'm hoping this taper is perfect timing for me to rest up and rebuild until race day. Race Day! It's gonna be awesome!!!

(Good mood courtesy of preparation and the blissful arrival of November. )
