Many of you know I've been training for IMAZ this year with the guidance and ridiculous patience of Coach Jeff of Mach3Multisport. The result so far? I am 16 weeks into training and I finally got to see how it feels not to completely suck at this sport yesterday. My goal was "under 1:20" going into the race. So many TriGirls! I had a blast hanging out with everyone pre-race, and I was happily in Wave 7 so there was some sun out when I got in the water. I PR'ed the swim from my last Tinfoilman by 3 minutes (15:08), then spent a huge amount of time in transition trying to put on enough clothing to be warm. (I suffer from weenie-ness of the weather, too.) Bike - I hate the bike portion of anything, but Jeff had set a goal of 40 minutes for the bike so I pushed harder than usual and on my watch my bike time was 38:30 (meaning my transitions added up to 3 minutes - oops!- so my overall bike was 41:47). I was so happy to be off the bike that I took off running like a crazy person, immediately felt nauseous and dizzy, slowed down and found a pace I could stick with. I PR'ed the run by 45 seconds (an all-time PR of 22:35), and finished to a crowd of TTG cheering. Final time - 1:19:30, a 4 minute PR overall. The best part? I wasn't cranky and sore and beat up - I feel fine, thanks to my training and the encouragement of SO MANY people I actually feel like I might be almost ready for Ironman this time! Next up: SOMA 1/2 IM! Comments (2)
![]() The Goal written by Jeff Orr, October 13, 2008
Based on the fact that you took at least a minute and a half to put on that long-sleeved wool ensemble you were wearing, I'm going to go ahead and say that you met the 1:18:00 goal in spirit. Nice work
