Stream of consciousness on a rest day...

Written by Holly
Friday, 25 April 2008

It’s Friday (a rest day!) and my weekly mileage is at 31 – with a scheduled 18-miler for tomorrow. Unless I’m crazy, it must be marathon season. And so begins the plan for world domination. No, wait, wrong play book. This is the plan to run a sub-4 hour marathon. Ultimate goal? Boston, baby! However, I need a 3:40 to get to Boston, so for the next few years sub-4:00 is going to have to be the carrot that dangles in front of me.

On the subject of carrots, I hate orange food. This means my diet contains nearly no Beta-Carotene, which for me means that I now cannot tell what off ramp I am careening down until I am nearly eyeball to eyeball with said off ramp’s resident homeless person. In short, my eyesight is abysmal. I have contacts, but wear them only during races or road trips. They itch terribly and I am more annoyed than assisted by them. I am used to squinting and just not being able to tell who is waving at me.

Speaking of waves, the aquathlons are coming up. These fantastic little swim-run gems pop up every summer (Wednesday nights are date night all summer long!) and offer the chance to once again realize (through much gasping and burning) that swimming is Aerobic. I swim very slowly (sadly, it is MY max speed), then run as fast as I can in an effort to make my final time look somewhat respectable.

Speaking of times, that reminds me I need to change the flat tire on my double jogger for my 18-miler tomorrow – sub-4:00 here I come!

Happy training.  :)
