Eek! A twinge in my knee... |

This morning as I was waking up, I stretched my legs out underneath the pile of comforters. Finally, finally Tucson is having cold weather. I love sleeping all snuggled under the weight of blankets! As I straightned my right leg I felt a sharp twinge under my right knee cap that popped my eyes wide open and sent a quick wave of panic through me. I lay perfectly still trying to assess the situation; trying to give my sleepy brain time to catch up to my suddenly rapidly beating heart. My brain quickly caught up and thoughts filled my mind..."what the...?!" "NOOOOOO!" "Why, why, why, why, why?" "I didn't even do anything hard yesterday!" Yesterday, mmmm, okay, let's see, what did I do? Work. Weight workout. Short run w/ dogs...uh oh....I was remembering something. I am dog sitting Jeremy's Weimaraner, Timber. He and my black lab Dakota are two of the greatest dogs ever, except when you pull a leash out. They go beserk. Dakota turns into the biggest spaz and Timber whines and carries on like he's being beaten to death. I decide it's better to run them each individually. My block is a 1/2 mile loop, so I figure 3 laps w/ each dog. Piece of cake. Well, I'll spare you the details of getting a leash on Timber while Dakota did her spaz dance and then the look of utter disappointment on her face when Timber and I left w/out her. Okay, Timber is a big dog and he took off running w/ me flailing behind him. As we rounded a corner, he jerked to sniff something and I remember (!) my knee twisting alittle. Nothing big, in fact I didn't even think twice about it. As we started up running again, Timber turned and took the leash out of my hand. We then ran the rest of the way w/ him carrying his own leash and me running about 5 paces behind him. Hysterical...the mental image of what we looked like was cracking me up. We were done when Timber said; he just turned up my driveway and barked at the door until I caught up. Then I had the fun of getting him off his leash and Dakota on hers. As Dakota and I were trotting along, she also darted off to the side and my knee again felt a twinge. I rotated it around a little, then we were on our way. Now, after having walked on my knee, rubbed it, examined it, I think it's fine. I think it probably just got stiff during the night and won't give me any trouble during training. Today I'll do a spin class and will make sure to keep an eye on how it's feeling. I must say I would be crushed to get injured so early in the game...enough that I'm thinking twice about running w/ dogs! Dakota's little doggy heart would be broken...she loves running w/ me. She actually starts spazzing out as soon as she sees me getting in my running clothes. So, I guess I'll just have to be more careful...if only I could teach her to carry her own leash like Timber. Here's to injury free training! Comments (0)
