Checking In

Written by Holly
Monday, 11 August 2008
With my love of check marks and punctuality comes a need to have numbers be even. Not necessarily “even” so much as “on the dot”. My ride was scheduled to be three hours on Saturday. As per my usual long ride, a varied selection of characters accompanied me on my ride. We had a series of re-groupings and heart rate plunging stops and one flat tire (thankfully not mine, the thought of six people watching me change a tire makes me sweat).

Because of our stopping and starting and general plodding along, we arrived back to the start point clocking in at two hours and forty-nine minutes. I had to go ride around Speedway and Country Club (the road safety of which is equal to none), riding in and out of neighborhoods and past Himmel Park to get my time up to three hours. Final time was three hours and I felt like I could legitimately check my ride off.

I am still able to say all workouts have been completed, and we are entering week 6 of training. I feel strong, and I’m getting a little break for my marathon on Saturday night (midnight! Area 51! Nerds galore!), so I am excited to keep the training going. Even swimming isn’t that bad when you do it enough.
