Aquathlon #4 Race Report

I hate water, but I reserve a special place in my Official Bag of Things I Hate for cold water. Imagine my delight at jumping into the pool last night and being – comfortable! Finally the million degree temps have warmed the pool and made it so I am not freezing at the start. My swim was crappy as usual, though it was made worse by cramping in my stomach from the start and I haven’t figured out what that was all about. I swam as well as I can (read: crappy) and when I thought I was done I looked expectantly to Kyle for my Lap count and he announced “6 more laps!” … what? I was dejected and sad, but finished with a decent (for me) time. I also lapped the newbie guy in my lane twice. Nice.

My plan was to run hard but comfortable, but the cramping made it more “hard” than “comfortable”. Maybe the heat? Whatever it was, my mile splits were way off and I ended up running in the last mile with a nice tall guy pretty slowly. I was also having issues with a ginormous blister that formed on my inner heel as I ran without socks. Dumb, I know, but I wanted to get my transition down to almost nothing. Didn’t work. Also, I cut my hair and I was having a lot of trouble getting it to stay out of my face. It is too short for a ponytail, where do I put it?

So, next week I will try again to bring the times down – hopefully not at the expense of my feet or toes. Oh! And last night brought out an old friend and new nemesis- Rachel J. is back!

Holly J.

p.s. If you still haven’t made it out to one of these, take advantage of Rane’s awesome organizational (times are very accurate) and diplomatic (fast, slow, medium, the order is always changed for fairness) skills before the summer is over!

I respectfully disagree that the 85 degree broth that is Randolph Pool is "comfortable."

6 more laps!? Ouch!
